What the heck is a Mucus Plug?

During your pregnancy your body will produce mucus that accumulates at your cervix- called the mucus plug. As you get closer to delivering your cervix will become softer and start to dilate. As your cervix opens the mucus plug will be able to move down into your vagina and be expelled. Many women call this, a vaginal sneeze.

It’s best to think of it as a cervical change occurring, that means labor will occur at some point in the near future (no guaranteed time frame).

What to expect:

  • Color ranging from clear all the way to slightly blood tinged.
  • You may not realize you have lost your mucus plug at all

Either way it’s a great sign your body is starting to get the ball rolling!
