Although you can’t exactly say how long “normal” labor should take, there is a certain “normal” pattern associated with labor. Prodromal Labor, also known as “ false labor,” can very physically and emotionally frustrating. There are contractions happening however they do not increase in intensity and there is little to no cervical change.
- If you are experiencing Prodromal Labor try to eat, drink, and rest up. You’ll need to try and conserve your energy for when labor progresses.
- If you are at the hospital you can talk to your care provider about Therapeutic rest. Medication, such as Nubain, can be used to help you turn off and get the rest you need.
If you are experiencing Prodromal Labor having a solid support will make a huge difference. Have your birth partner or your Doula do some massage, counter pressure, or whatever you need to make you feel supported. If you have any questions or concerns talk your health care provider.
